Exactly - VR (or IS or OS) however it does let you shoot in dimmer lighting with a slower speed as well as being able to effectivly handhold many longer lenses without shake problems.
 
essentially the rings (or doughnuts as they get called) are a distraction in the background and are (mostly) the product of a mirror lens (though I have had shots with rings in thebackground before - can't remember where or when but I know I have some - very uncommon with normal lenses).

"proper" bokeh should be (idealy) smooth and sort of - well - creamy to put a word to it. That is what the standard is set at currently
 
Sorry for hijacking this thread, but so circles are bad bokeh? and creamy (like in your fox pic background) is good, with no circles and very smooth?
 
I was looking for an explanation why, not the same answer repeated. haha.

I wanna say he also bought a 50-500 f/4 so im gonna take that one out next time. I may also mess with the 600 some more too, i havent given up on it yet lol
