Some Newbie Issues - RESOLVED

Hi all,

I'm rather new to photography, and in fact I bought my DSLR for video shooting, but yesterday I was asked to take pictures of my sister's prom. It's a Canon 5D Mark III. The result was a person with an camera that was much more powerful than his photography skills. As such, I kept it on auto mode the whole time, but when I went to offload the images I noticed some pretty serious barring issues that I don't know how to correct. See for yourself:

I'm sure it's just my lack of knowledge that caused them, particularly since when I convert the raw images to JPEGs there's no problem, and when I view them on my camera there's no problem, but the JPEGs my camera stored are all wonky when they're transferred to my computer. Does anyone have any idea what I did wrong or how to correct it in the future?

Edit: Actually, the raw images are all sorts of random colors and whatnot, which I suppose means that they're corrupted somehow. It's still odd that the original jpeg images are bad but the converted raw images are fine...

That's an odd one. If the raw files are okay, then it rules out a sensor issue (my first thought). Have you tried doing a hard reset of your camera?

Thanks for the response, tirediron! It turned out that the card reader I was using was a piece of junk. When I imported the pictures from my camera directly all the problems vanished. Which is both relieving and frustrating considering all the time I spent messing with this. Sorry to waste your time!

Nice - I have to admit, I probably wouldn't have guessed that one in a hundred years. Glad you sorted it.
