So, are you just guessing on the settings...?

I dont understand the whole "Without metering" idea? Are you just not looking at the light meter or are you using a camera with no light meter..
Or are you just on Auto?
Oh well, metering or not, I'm a fan of the first two. That's a pretty photogenic kid..

Maybe practicing your sunny 16? I guess sometimes with my Leica IIIf that I bought recently, but then, it's from 1952 and doesn't have a meter.. I do however take a reading with an external meter usually.

For the first exposure taken in a given setting. I'm working on it not being a guess though. Noticed I've been getting closer on the first guess more often.

Not really sunny 16 but more practicing getting the shutterspeed I need, at a given aperture, in any given light, without too much thought process.If it was film I would have had a meter or a camera that can meter.

Well if you're just shooting digital, you could just chimp the shots until the histogram looks right
