Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
I have this picture:
ava44.jpg

(specifically that one, but many others are having this problem too) Its looking perfect in lightroom, not overly sharpened at all. When uploaded to my freewebs site, it looks like this (last picture on the page, click on it to view it large and see what I mean)

http://www.freewebs.com/kellylindseyphotography/apps/photos/album.jsp?albumID=223395

and its not just that picture its doing it to, its doing it to most of them. what can i do to prevent this and upload it normally?

Wow, that's quite a difference eh. Compression is definately not your friend. For PC viewing, I generally set the image size to something around 800x600 pixels and at 72dpi. From there I choose save for web and get good results with those setting. What are you saving it as regarding dimensions and size?

Thanks for answering! I changed the DPI from 240 to 72, reuploaded and no change??. I am using lightroom and don't see "save to web.." I'll keep fiddling with the settings though.

OK I twiddled w/settings and uploading.. I have 2 up right now. Can someone let me know which one they feel is the better of the 2, OR if I need to scrap them both and get better settings.

The first is at 72dpi and like 2400x2400 something pixels.

The second is 150dpi and 800x600 pixels.

CC please!!

They both look as bad..
Sorry the picture posted here looks just fine...

72 dpi is pretty standard for web viewing. 600x800 is large enough for what you are doing. It's not gonna cost you anything to try it.
Save for web is an option on PS.

Is there any difference between the photobucket photo (posted above) and the photo uploaded on freewebs? Is it the same file uploaded to both sites?

If the file is not the same uploaded to both places, what is the difference in compression when you saved each export from Lightroom?

What is freewebs? Just a webserver or is it an image site? Did you do a webpage design thing in Lightroom and upload that all to freewebs? It could have been the way you created the website at freewebs or the way the html resizes the photos in the code of your freewebs site. Try looking through the sourcecode of your website to see if there is any "SIZE=" tags on the photo display sections. It could just be the way the html code is resizing the image.

I just realized that your freewebs site is resizing the photo. Upload a photo at 640x480 and see if that image still looks similar or if it looks better. I'm guessing that this in the source code is where the image is being placed and resized.....

"<img pid="30166251" alt="" id="photo" style="border:0;width:553px;""

It is resizing to a 553 pixel width. Resize the photo in Lightroom (possible?) or other editor for better control of the quality and upload that and check the image quality.

Yes, freewebs has been giving me issues. Mabye someday if I graduate beyond amateur I will build a good site!

I *think* I fixed it (for that one specific picture) Can someone check>? THanks SOO much!
