hey guys sorry i didn't reply earlier, been busy all day but i have 2 mins to reply.
WOW, i can't believe nobody got the coloring part right! Schawtty man even you??? Where in the world is REZNAP??? Surely he might have the answer.
Setup: Black background, WL X 800 with barn door on the left with modeling light on. This made it SO MUCH easier than my first try because before I didn't have a good light to light up the smoke w/out the light spilling on the background. Not to mention I needed 2 lights where now I used the modeling light and flash from one unit.
Insence is what I used to light up. No candles was used. Although I'm a bit confused that theory. Please explain bit further.
Camera on tripod with 24-105 lens. Shot these all at f/4 but I think I should have shot them a little smaller to get sharper image. I used one shot focusing mode but then I used AI Servo and things got much more easier and I could shoot continous shots.
Ok now the
COLOR: Perhaps the easiest way than most other ways I can think of. I duplicated my layer (you can also just put a blank layer) on top then used the
gradient tool and got creative with it

Change the layer to "lighen" and it will change the color of the smoke and leave everything else black. Play with different colors and you'll find something you like. I tried to play with colors of fire, red, green, yellow, purple, blue, orange etc. The very last shot though, I didn't do anything with WB per se, but instead just raised the saturated tool all the way and the vibrant tool a bit and it made the blue pop out.
As for the cool effect with the shapes n stuff, I'm gonna sit on it for now
