I'm chomping at the bit to try getting some pictures with this thing!!..., my first pics apparently will have to be handheld...

You will love it. I have one as well. It actually works surprisingly well handheld. Just be sure to brace yourself against something. You will absolutely adore it once your new monopod comes in.
