Do you mean straight OOC B&W or processed in post?

I like. Not harsh at all.
I love the B&W I get out of my Ricoh GR, but I process a color image in CS6 to create my monochromes as opposed to using the in camera B&W filter which is why I asked.

I like the detail of the underwater rocks as well as the roots of the tree center frame.

This is a scene that could very easily be rendered overly busy, but this image does not come across that way.
