I bet Nikon is realizing the axe will fall sooner or later and must migrate to another source for sensors. No way they are going to go crawling to Canon for CMOS chips. Judging from the D3 they already have.

Nikon now has full frame and amazing ISO performance.
Canon has released their 1ds-MarkIII and 1d markII in hopes to stay in front
Pentax FINALLY decided to show up to the game with the K10D (soon K20D)
Sony-Konica-Minolta FINALLY shows that they too can play in the market for professionals.

This is so exciting.. I was getting tired of watching the Canon versus Nikon game over and over and over again.

Agreed. I actually shoot Canon but I enjoy rooting for the underdog. My choice would be the Pentax these days in SLRs.

...well, at least until Leica announces the R10.

Speaking of pentax... the K20D looks to be VERY promising.

I've got a whole collection full of wonderful K-mount takumars whispering in my ear to dump the final 3 pieces of Canon for a K10D. Not going to happen .. yet.

So will Leica finally join the game and implement AF in their R10 SLR? I know Leica is conservative but sheesh... AF has only been around for almost 30 years now.

Guys, if you can design a chip, you can build one too. It's really not that hard. (no, it's not easy but if you have the bankroll and the desire you can accomplish it!)

Nikon designed it's full fame sensor and should not have to worry too much about supply. Sony gets used a lot because they ship good product, on time, and on budget.

Let's enjoy and applaud Sony's accomplishment and let the brand wars go for a bit, KOK?

I like seeing brand wars!!! It drives the technology and market. What I don't like is a brand war where there are only two major players... or worse... one.

A lot of the big sensors (Hasselblad, for instance) are made by Kodak.

A lot of fashion and product work is shot with these medium-format digitals.

Oh, and to join you in speculation: yeah, I assume they will some focus confirmation device, I don't see how else they're going to come to market at this point. It would be ludicrous to spend - what, millions? - on product R&D and not include AF at this point.

I think it's producibility and pricing. The body would need to be almost as thick as a DSLR to get the image circle of the lens to focus on a sensor that big. Also the lens would be as big as DX format lenses, so the portability factor would be lost. (unless you have cargo pants pockets on your left shirt breast)

sigma makes one with an aps-c in it. They usualy dont do that because then they've have to make it more expensive and people who use point and shoots dont really NEED that good of a sensor,, when they're satisfied with smaller cheaper ones
