Founded in 1932 near Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), the GOMZ factory is one of the oldest and biggest Soviet optical companies..
I have in my collection some GOMZ cameras.

The first one I bought and used during the seventies was a cheap TLR called Lubitel 2. Some sort of copy of the Voigtlander Brilliant cameras
This camera had a great success and was the first medium format used by many young amateur photographers.
This is normal. Lubitel in Russian means “amateur”.
On the side of the body is a small hatch covering a void where two filters may be stored.
Two versions were marketed: an export one with Latin lettering

Another version with Cyrillic lettering was probably dedicated to local market.

I enjoyed using my Lubitel. The triplet lens producing quite decent medium format negatives.

I have also on my shelves a more recent version called Lubitel 166.

But my preferred one is a stereoscopic camera called “Sputnik” marketed circa 1955
It is a stereoscopic camera producing pairs of 6x6 cm negatives with type 120 films.
The shutter/ lens assemblies were similar to those of the Lubitels.
