Space Shuttle Launch

So I am going to go to the launch friday afternoon. Due to scheduleing / price looks like Titusville area is as close as I can get. I have a D90 with a 500mm f/8 mirror lens & cable release.

Anyone have any suggustions / tips? Should I shoot RAW or jpeg?

I thought they were over with and had to check NASA's site to make sure you weren't crazy. I don't have any suggestions other than to shoot raw, but I envy you. Good luck and be sure to post them.

Bring a lounge/beach chair lol. Seriously, you will be stuck at wherever you will be for a long time before and after.

Also, it's really a festival, so don't forget to capture the passion of the crowd as well!

I will make sure to stop by wal-mart and grab a camping chair. Will see what the wide angle can do for the crowds. Thanks for the tips!

Guys at work are joking about driving up to see it. I was like.... sure I'll go!

I live 3.5 hours from it. I don't mind the travel, just the risk if it delays, I am losing 7 hours.

I am flying tomorrow night from LA to Ft. Lauderdale. Leave LA at 10:30 pm, arrive in FL at 6:30 am, rent a car, be to the park by 9:30 and hope there is still parking!

Good luck - looking forward to seeing your photos. I'm with the other- shoot raw, if you need the jpeg, then shoot both if your camera can do it, but if it is a choice - raw wins by a large margin. You will have more freedom to work with any of your images when you process them. Will you also need a tripod - wasn't clear from your post?

A good friend of mine has been to a couple of the shuttle launches. If you can make it in June, I'm sure that you'll carry a great memory for the rest of your days. He said it was one of the the most amazing things he's ever seen, and this coming from a photographer that has seen pretty much everything the world has to offer, good and bad.
