It's a very good lens (btw, I noticed you mentioned you saw it on eBay, but that lens' suggested retail is $819 -- so you can get it new from any authorized dealer for that price.)

The thing to keep in mind is this is a "prime" lens -- meaning it does not "zoom" -- so it's always at the 200mm focal length. It'll handle shots at a distance with relative ease. If the action is near you then you'll be confined (you can't zoom out to get everything in frame.)

Don't forget... if you're unsure about how well a lens will work out, you can always rent one before you buy it.

When looking through Ebay I did come across this:
[h=1]Canon Telephoto EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM[/h]It's a black lens unlike the white one (from the link above by TCampbell). How does that measure up because it's listed at around $800?

That is a fantastic lens
This is with an old 1Dmk1 (best sports camera at time but very noisy compared to todays cameras) iso3200 @ F2.8 and 200mmF2.8L II

Do any stadiums even let you use these lens inside?? is there a smaller lens but still fast.... maybe a max zoom of 135mm?
