Here's some of the more vibrant spring flowering shrubs that are now in full bloom, from Friday's Planting Field's outing.

Thanks for stopping by and having a look.

I like 1 and 4. The subject in # 5 is lost the background IMO.

Premo, thanks so much. I was hoping that there was enough separation between the flower and the Bokeh background that the use of a single color would work.

Hey Joel, nice ! Gorgeous DOF. I too wish there was a smidge more separation from the background. Yanno... you COULD take that umbrella with you **wink wink nudge nudge**
I haven't used one to filter light yet but I'm definitely picking one up next time I'm in town, I wonder what effect it would have had in these used to filter the light on the background to make the subjects pop more? (or I could be way out in left field pondering tools I haven't used yet lol)

Judi, the umbrella would just have diffused the light on both the subject as well as the background flowers. While cutting the contrast some ( a good thing), my concern was that the separation between both would have been even less, and since I was using the same species of flowers for subject and background, that they would have been just a tad to close in tone. Will be heading back to the planting fields either Friday or next week, and I'll take the umbrella with me, and see what I can come up with. Naturally, it will be a cloudy day, so I won't need it, but if I leave it home, the sun will be shinning. Another good use for it is as wind block, and lately I sure could use one.

You better not come back next time and say you didn't take it :p lol
I was thinking about positioning the umbrella so it was only filtering the background and not the subject, not sure if that is possible?

Wow !! Talk about a pressure shoot. I think I'll keep the umbrella in the trunk so I've always got it with me.

Not sure if I can do that with just an umbrella as the flowers are usually on the same plant or bush.

Teehee, now there's a plan ;)
Ok good point, I'm just playing with the idea in my head, I guess I should go and get myself an umbrella too so I am not just daydreaming about what can be done with one huh?
