Square filters or circular filters?

Im interested in landscapes and nature photography and like to do portraits as well. I have used circular glass filters but never the square ones. I'm interested in picking up some of the basics like graduating nd and nd; sometime later I may get others. I was looking at this set of square filters and wondering what your thoughts are or if theres a decent set for a good price. any recommendations?

With grad nd filters you will be better off with square or rectangle than a round filter. Depending on your gear you may find the 3" Cokin P-series limiting and you would be better off going with 4" filters like the Cokin Q-series.

Cokin neutral density filters are known to have a magenta cast to them. Investing in filters from Lee, Singh-Ray, or Hitech would be a better choice.

The magenta cast from Cokin filters is easily controllable just by keeping the lens well shaded. I use an 8x10" piece of matte black craft foam (<$1.00 @ Wal-mart) to make a formable lens shade; as long as the sun is hitting the front or edges of the filter, you're fine. The 'P' series are fine for almost all 77mm lenses, but at the extreme wide end of some UWAs, may not give you quite enough room.

I use a d800e with a tamron 28-75 2.8 lens. I'm looking to (eventually) pick up a nikon 24-70 f2.8 and 16-35 f4. would you suggest the cokin p series in use with that body and lenses or would you suggest picking something else?

You would better off with 4" filters, I recommend Lee.
