Stacking attempts

I found a dead stag beetle about 18 months ago and it has been in my freezer ever since. I tried stacking it with both flash and ambient light (not really natural as I was inside but it was no artificial light).
Natural light (13 seconds per exposure, possibly should have been more)

What aperture were you using for the shots? Also what kind of flash setup - was it just the popup or bare speedlite flash - where was it positioned etc...

It was the pop up flash with a paper plate to diffuse it. The aperture was f11. Personally I think the flash ones worked a lot better.
