I was wondering what combo of filters or magic I should have tried to reduce the haze of the rain filled air.

Hand-held or I would have opened it up a bit and tried to capture the streaking rain also. The haze is a combonation of fog trying to form over a river beyond the trees and a decent size controlled fire earlier.
