The grayscale of the sand contrasts the color of the subject quite well. Makes me feel like the starfish is in a lonely cold world. The positioning of the water in the picture and the vastness of the sand give it an excellent feeling.
I love the pic! The shadow is amazing! He got stranded there when the tide went out? The sand around him/her is so untouched! Will he be ok there in the sand or did you but him back in the water?
Oh, I absolutely agree - I don't care much for images that are obviously "photoshopped" - but in this case, it's just another method of hand tinting, which I DO endorse. Great shadow, great composition, nice image! And I agree with Liz and hope he made it back to the water.
Intriguing shot! Was this taken on our planet? The PS question is a tough one. Photography has only been a perception of reality since it's start. Maybe the answer is just make great art.
