Honestly I'm not totally sure how to take this news.

I mean my hope for the US film industry to turn out anything good is mostly non-existent unless its Pixar or Lord of the Rings - but Disney tend to do mostly ok. I mean, its kinda like what's been said in that they can't do worse than what has been done recently (unless they make it a musical of course ).

That said the big sticker for me is if they are going to follow the new series or the original trilogy as their primary influence (it can't be denied that there is a massive difference between the two - heck just look at the tech gap and how something like C3PO is clearly very advanced in the original films and yet is clearly quite substandard when you compare him in the new 3 films - at least against the other driods in use).

It supposedly follows Lucas's original storyline. He had planned on 9 films initially and started with 4,5,6. We've been waiting for 7,8,9 since way back. The three would be taking up the story where Return of the Jedi left off.

Lucas is going to be some sort of consultant on it so it will follow his vision and he will have say in it for sure, but someone else will be directing, producing.

LOTR was a lot more NZ film industry than US...but I know what you mean, really good movies are few and far between these days.

As for Disney taking the reins for Star Wars...well, they couldn't possibly be worse than Lucas. :roll:

Lucas has been teamed up with Disney for a long time, I think it's a good move to continue the "Star Wars Saga". Just as long as they don't get quite as campy as they did with the Ewoks and Jar Jar....... uggh.

.. well it is just a logical step forward for Lucasfilm. They ruined the second trilogy (I know, we should call it the "first") by introducing silly characters such as Jar Jar Binks (a PITA if you ask me) and giving the movies a very cheesy touch.

Now, with 100% Disney support they can continue to make things even worse
