Maybe a little but the detail is there, so they aren't blown out. I would agree, no complaints here either. #1 is too cute.

The composition is more pleasing in 2 because the way the head is facing is farther away from the edge of the frame. Keep it up!

Watch for chopped hands/feet. I like #2 better because the crop on 1 is a bit tight for me. Perhaps a bit more power camera left on each.

True but with a portrait you can center the subject, so that you aren't cutting off the ear or side of the head when framed.

I can def understand that.. its just very unbalanced with so much room on one side and so little the other. rough idea:
