Focus stack experiment #2 with the D850. A narrow step of 3 worked fine on this image but didn't do quite so well on a landscape I also tried (before it started raining). All in all, I think this going to be one of my most favorite in-camera tools. This is a 7 frame stack.

Nicely done - I've tried a bit of this myself with mixed results. Still trying to figure out "the rules".

With the D850 you get several setup options: Number of shots which is nearly infinite though in all fairness to the camera, it will only shoot what it needs. I generally set mine somewhere in the 20-35 range. Focus step widths and for this shot, three worked nicely but for detailed landscapes where there is a lot going on in the foreground, I think 5-7 will work better. Interval to the next shot and that is also a matter of personal choice. I leave mine at "0," Exposure smoothing which so far has worked the best and Silent which is an entirely mirror up operation so you can avoid mirror slap between exposures.
