I'm indecisive as to whether or not this is any good. I feel like I didn't quite do the scene justice. Thoughts?

If you would have had longer exposures in your set, The water would have had more interest (silkened it) Otherwise the detail of the water fights with the detail behind. You need opposing textures

To me the problem is composition. Not sure exactly what the subject is. The trees are cut off, the stream is not very interesting, and could do with some silky look as mentioned. I think it comes down to walking around the spot until you come up with a good interesting composition. You almost have it, but its just a little short.

 plus it doesn't look very sharp on my monitor

That happens with HDR sometimes. Over-sharpening it was a worry of mine, so i didn't go too strong with the clarity and sharpening.

You've hit it right on the head. No real central theme. From the looks of it, I would have moved down stream some as there appears to be some rocks that the water has to work around, lowered my perspective, and used a longer exposure.

I will have to keep that in mind. This is a stream I will most definitely revisit.

D-B-J, I like the image. I think the composition is fine.

I'm not a huge fan of the processing. It looks soft and a bit flat.

Try some tone mapping to give it a little punch. I would do a little sharpening as well. If you're interested to see how others would process the set, you're always welcome to post the original stack and see what others would do.
