Don't get me wrong.
I think you are off to a good start because most of your pictures have a seed of something in them; you just haven't worked out what that is and framed your picture around it.

And believe me it isn't easy - or it isn't easy for me.
I can go out for a day, shoot 300 pictures and get nothing.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom. I can see the difference between my original image and your edit - the image tells a story vs. a scene of distractions.

Here are a couple more that I think may fit more to what you were describing. If you have the time, I'd love to hear your (or anyone's) continued thoughts.

You can learn a lot from your misses.
For each picture, look at it dispassionately and figure out how it could have been better.
Where should I have stood to emphasize what I wanted to show?
Did I clip off too much?
Did I shoot too early or too late?

All of this builds a knowledge of where to be in certain situations; not that the shots will be the same, but the best angles may be.
As soon as a scene or situation presents itself, start thinking about what this could tell you or show you or say something. What story or emotion or relationship could you catch?

Have a shot in mind and prepare your camera.
