So I was downtown taking pictures of people in the snow and what not. My friend and I would go up to someone and ask if we could take their picture. Some would ask why... I didn't really have an answer. So we decided that we're going to do a photo essay of our city. What do you tell people? Do you ask them?

Tell em it's for art. I guess you'd have to be pretty ignorant to not understand why some random person wants to take your photo. Even people that have barely understood english were able to understand my request.

I do a lot of street photography, most of the time I just pretend to belong where I am.
People don't bother to ask (for real they're scared of me  ).
Also I do quite a few shots from the hip...

It happened to me a few times when people asked me not to photograph them -
I did it anyway, since I'm good at being innocent 8)

On the subway I do sneak attacks... prefocus (or use autofocus)
set shutter and aperture and wait for the right moment.
I pretend to look in one direction and shoot something else,
camera sitting on my lap.

Know how to use your equipment, act quickly...
