Street portraits

I've just moved back to the UK and haven't dared to walk up to people and just ask to take their photograph just yet. In Dubai, where I lived for 9 years, it was a lot easier to do and the vast majority of people were more than happy to have their portrait taken. I'm into my street photography but even after a few years it feels slightly voyeuristic - breaking down those barriers, breaking the ice and asking a stranger for a photograph when you can see an interesting subject and great ambient light is to me far more challenging and rewarding. Many of these subjects have been living and working in Dubai for a long time with very few opportunities to see their families in their home countries, so taking prints back to them within a couple of weeks so they can send them home to their families has been my way of repaying them.

Fantastic portraits, hard to pick the best one.

Again, these are quite magnificent. I like how you capture the environment as well as the person, which lends itself to a more complex narrative.

#3, #8, and especially #10 are the standouts here for me. #10 is just breathtaking.

The last is probably my least favorite. I just have seen this approach and look too many times. The extremely detailed close up of the older person's face.

Overall, enjoy looking at these. great work!

Wow, what a great series. You have quite the talent. #20 is fantastic, very raw but beautiful at the same time. It is great that you provide them a copy. I would be happy with those photos.
