Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I am doing an outdoor photo shoot in a couple of weeks, and I need assistance on what type of lighting equipment I need to rent.(i am a newbie to strobes and external lights). Since this is out door, I will not have access to any sort of power source. It is going to be a solo or 2 people shot. As far as current lighting goes, all I have is and SB-600. Please advise.

I'd talk to god, see what the rates are on the sun!

ahah.. thanks. I wish this could be done during daytime.

Good portraiture done in the daytime is also done using strobed lighting and a bunch of other gear. Shooting in direct sunlight is a huge pain in the butt.

Sorry, just wanted to get a laugh out of ya =D I know nothing about lighting, yet, other than it's bright and comes from my camera.

What I've done though and suggested to others, is search for lighting techniques on youtube. As well as the sites/links others share here, of course.

If god were to exist, I'd have a hard time believing that a camera body would survive a 5505 °C climate. But, if this actually happens, and someone does a photoshoot on the sun I guess that would give me a reason to start believing.

I personally believe in bob, but didn't want to offend.

In my experience, once you start getting in to external light sources, it gets incredibly complicated. I'm still learning how to effectively use a single SB-600 off-camera, and I've been resisting the urge to invest in additional strobes until I feel like I can't do anything more with that one.

It's kind of a catch-22, but it's hard to know what to rent until you've used it, and of course you can't use it until you rent it. If you have the opportunity, you might try renting a variety of equipment in advance and practice with it, to see what kind of effects you get from different combinations, and then when it's time for the shoot you'll have a better idea what you need to get the lighting you want.

Folks can (and will) pop in and give you some good advice on what might be useful, but you still need to know how to use it properly. Just my $.02, YMMV.

What time of day are you planning on the shoot?

If you can arange for the shoot to be durning the "Golden Hour", then you can use the sun as one light source and your SB600 as the other.

I'm not advocating their products, although they are outstanding IMO, but the Lastolite School of Photography has some great videos on how to use various tools (softboxes, umbrellas, difussers, reflectors, etc.) to shoot outdoors.

There are several other lighting acessory makers that have tutorials like the ones Lastolite has.

If one were to effectively use an Internet search engine.........

around 5:30PM. I felt, a strobe will fill the light in better regardless of time.
