Photos NOT OK to edit
I'm a photography student, who's half way through my first year of Photographic Studies. In our classroom our instructor uses a Metz CL-4 Flash, two light studio set up. There are features about the metz flash I dislike, mainly the cost of getting two, for a two light set up.

I was wondering what other options are there for me. I want something I can use at the studio and on location, something not too expensive, but durable and reliable. I'm looking for a full kit if possible, flash/light, brackets, stands, umbrellas etc.

Any suggestions on a type to get? I'm completely lost as it seems if we ask about something other than the CL4 we're told it's no good!

A lot of people praise Vivitar 283's. They're cheap, powerful, and mostly built like tanks.

Vivitar 285s are pretty powerful for speedlights, and Nikon SB-24,25,28,28, and 800's all have PC syncs on them, and can be used in full manual. I think the 24 or 28 is the most powerful out of those, if not the 800.
