Studio Portrait of an Actor

Each to their own style I guess :)

DOF is fine. Just needs more contrast. it feels a bit greyish

Interesting look, but to be honest, I think the DoF is just a little too shallow.

I agree on the DOF. i was never a fan of only the face being in focus on portraits. drives me nuts seeing the shallow DOF baby pictures too.
have you tried seeing what it looks like with the red channel taken down juuuust a hair?
it might just be the color of the background throwing me off though, but he looks a tad red too.

overall though I like it. a very nice headshot.

I would also increase the DOF -- (and dial back the red color on the face!)

The red is fine on a calibrated screen, well on my screen anyway :p

Regards to the depth of field, that's just my style for some shots and half the reason actors in this area come to me for my style.

I agree generally a bigger dof is the standard, but I'm not the standard :)

With the contrast it looks slightly grey because I clipped the blacks in tone curve

the DOF is just fine. The image you posted isn't the strongest in your series. His expression is too neutral. It doesn't connect emotionally

This is just my favorite. I think portraits are very subjective. This one I asked for a "blank look"

You don't want everything to be connecting emotionally.
