This is my first attempt at shooting with/on a black background... using my umbrella lights and the pop-up flash on my camera... Unfortunately I haven't got a "real" flash yet and no off-camera flash/strobes...

Settings:

Camera: Canon
Model: Canon EOS 50D
ISO: 100
Exposure: 1/60 sec
Aperture: 5.6
Focal Length: 38mm
Flash Used: Yes

All I can say is try to do what I tried to do with mine, get the whole subject in focus, so use a smaller aperture and longer shutter speed to get back the correct exposure...other than that...that is one helluva pretty puppy...in a manly way don't you know

Thanks... I'll try again with a smaller Av setting... do you think F8 will do it or should I go smaller? F12? smaller?

If you look at my "Wizard and Dragon" post, I believe I used an f8...I use a manual lens so there is no EXIF data for that...I may have used f11 as well...just try each one until a majority of the dog is in focus...I'm sure, as I'm no expert, that different lenses are going to have different sweet spots so I wouldn't necessarily be able to point you to a correct aperture without knowing the lens you used intimately...
