Been debating a lot lately on how to back up the files. Thought of going through online backup services then thought

A. it'd be too slow to back up 300gb woth of files. At 25mbps (around 3 MBps still a long time)
B. they say the back up is not 100% guaranteed so why am I going to pay for that??

Thought of going through USB hard drive but again. SLOW 10-15MBps

New comp came with eSATA port so thought that might be the next best option. BAM! Around 150MBps data tansfering speed. Takes a few mins and all files are backed up and the hard drive goes back in the safe

You can go with the new USB 3.0 but it's not as available as eSATA and mroe expensive.

So yeah, food for thought.

Same here.

No off site backup?
All your eggs in one basket?

Well not 300 a day that was the initial but say 1-2gb when I work? But sometimes easily 4-5th files from tue 5d2 raw files

I keep the drive locked in the 400lb safe with my camera equipment. I don't think both my comp hd and the external hd fail at once especially when the external isn't connected.

Beside the cradle was $35 off Amazon and I can hot swap as many drives as I want

Anyway this is an option if anyone is interested. Works for me and may work for someone else. Let's by make it a complex thread with this one.

Is the 400lb safe bolted to the floor?

Yup, got home alarm system. By the time someone tries to run away with that down the road one of the cops should be able to make it to my house in time since the police station is about 1.2 miles away

Next question?

look, i don't care how you back your **** up. if you are going to use an usb hard drive, this is a better alternative and much faster...period

I use a realtime backup locally for emergencies (accidental deletion, hard drive failure) and an offsite backup for disasters (theft, fire, etc.).

I use Mozy, and I have restored from there twice due to various reasons. I currently have 2.5TB backed up to Mozy, and while the first backup will take a while, subsequent backups are quick. And they offer user-defined encryption so even they can't see your data.

$9.90 a month for both my machines, unlimited backup.
