Suggestions for Golf Pictures?

I have a couple of friends at work who play golf and who would buy prints for their offices, if I can come up with some good shots. Since I have never played golf, and know nothing about it, can someone give me some suggestions as to some good compositions?

I visited the local golf course a few weeks ago and took a few shots, some of which I've posted below. Comments would be appreciated. I plan to go back in the Spring when everything is green and try to get some good shots for the prints to sell.

I'd appreciate any suggestions that you might have. If can borrow clubs, a bag, even get someone to model for me. I'm open to pretty much anything.

Yes, I can borrow clubs. No problem.

Neither of these guys would be the type to pose, or even to want me to take their pix. However, if I were to simply tag along while they were playing, that might work. I'm sure I could get several good shots out of 18 holes.

If you do tag along Im sure you will do fine. I wouldnt mind having one of myself hitting out of a sand bunker with sand and the ball coming out.

Shots out of a bunker are the best. They love them. I have a friend who loves those style shots--we spent a half hour taking them. I do like your first shot as well.

I like the first shot the best - my input is I would try to make the flag pole straighter and not so transparent... not fully in focus either to go with the DOF but it looks like it is too transparent...

As I drove by a golf course one day it occurred to me that every time I drive by someone is golfing. Always. I wondered why someone would do such a dumb thing. Hit a ball again and again until it was in a cup. I decided to try it to see what the attraction was. I bought a used set at a rummage sale that was 2 inches too short for 5 dollars. There was change in the pocket so the entire set up cost me $3.65

The first time out I was hooked.

Photograph the reasons.... the emotions.... the addiction... the agony... the triumph... Forget the documentary photos. Capture the essence behind the lure of golf.

A ball stuck on the lip of the cup in perfect focus. A person in the background with putter raised to the sky in a god why me exasperation defeated pose completely out of focus photo. Perhaps another leaning and looking in anticipation of it dropping but knowing it never will. Take a lesson from Norman Rockwell style and use kids? An old man and the kid? A couple of old women?

I've been working on Pro Golf assignments few times, just be careful with the sound of the camera wait the Golfers hit the ball or use a very long lens golfers hate a sound before they hit the ball that actually can cost that the golfer request you been out of the golf course.

I hate golfing with people like that. I'm out there to have fun. I cant see how a shutter click is going to mess anyone up any more than a bird chirping.

It ebbs and flows. Depending on availability of players and motivation\competition for time. I was just thinking today of taking a week of vacation to play everyday this summer.

I did a league once and that would be a good photo idea. An angry frustrated person looking for a lost golf ball.

To hit off the tee we had to look over the hump through a parascope. My shot was one of those that just felt perfect. No doubt that it was a shot that a golfer lives for. The course was manicured to perfection and no hazards awaited our arrival topside. I was thrilled to see what was waiting my next shot. I got up there only to discover my ball had vanished where there was no possible place for it to vanish. I was steamed. I was furious and stayed that way for the rest of the round. In the club house after while talking among the league members I repeated my story still furious. Henry asked what my ball looked like. I told him it had a big J with a big circle made with magic marker. As he pulled it from his pocket He told me he plucked it off the turf just past the green as he figured no one coming up behind his party could possibly have hit a tee shot that far. He thought it was an errant lost ball. Thus my perfect tee shot turn into a perfect torment for me.

That hole and every one there after could have served as a modeling session for the emotional torments of golf.
