Sun ray problem

Deer stand in woods by *webjunkie1961 on deviantART (don't seem to have permission to upload pics yet i guess admin wait a bit before new members can upload)

wanted to capture the ray of sun I could see with my eyes while I got some of it photo did not show it near as strong as it was when I was there. Any idea what I did wrong?

thanks but I am a novice and none of that thread was anything I understood...lol this may be a project for later after I learn more basics
