One key difference between this lens and the Canon 75-300 is that this is a Macro lens also, which allows close focusing and magnification up to 1:2. Comes in handy.

That's cool. How close will it focus? I can fill the frame with a flower-bud or something, but I have to be 5 ft or so from it. Did you get the kit-lens with the 300D? I did, and with some closeup filters it does pretty good macro stuff.

According to the distance scale, the closeset focusing distance in Macro at 300mm is 0.95 meters, which is about 3.1 feet. The normal min focusing distance, non macro is 1.5 meters, or 4.9 feet. It's a significant difference, although your depth of field is so tiny. You have to use a tripod and a smaller aperature. It makes handholding real tough.
