Sunset, sea, pier & wife - C+C

So what do you think? I took this in 2007 or so, before I got my DSLR, but the background was a bit bland. I was fooling around with some of my old pictures in PaintShop Pro X4, and I did a multiply and masked my wife out, and I loved how the shot looks now, with the sea like this. What do you guys think? Got edit? Regarding composition, any comments? By the way, I cut as much as I could out of the sky because it was just so bland. Is it OK like this?

It would be better if she were on the other side of the picture, OR facing the other direction. Cropping horizontal would make the picture better too.
There is a rule of thirds to follow, and that includes the sky vs ground ratios as well. Regardless if it is bland or not, I would keep enough to fill up the top 1/3 of the picture, that way she doesn't look squished in the picture.

The body positioning is all wrong here. The sunlight is coming from camera right but the way you have her angled only a small bit of it is actually falling on her face. Had you used the same pose with a 180 turn she would have got perfect light on her face. The way you have her faced now everything in the front is in a shadow.

OK, I see what you are saying; but dont you mean 90 degrees? 180 would mean I am shooting her back... Anyway, I got your point, and it helps a lot, so thanks!

OK, I see what you are saying; but dont you mean 90 degrees? 180 would mean I am shooting her back... Anyway, I got your point, and it helps a lot, so thanks!
