T2i- video funtion/SD speed class rating

I've just recently started playing around with the video function on my T2i. Videography isn't something I'm even considering getting serious about, but would like to know how to use the feature for recreational use.

Sometimes when I try to record, I get a message "Video recording has been stopped automatically." Other times it will record for as long as I want it to (given that there is space on my card).

I attempted to research this on my own and found something related to speed class of the SD card. Could someone please explain why this happens sometimes but not all?

I think the camera stops recording if it records too long (internal heat?), and/or you should be using a fast card (my T3i recommends a Class 10 card ensure enough data transfer speed).

Yes, I also read that it will stop recording if the CMOS sensor gets too hot.

It's very strange though because I will begin shooting and it automatically stops after a few seconds. But then I can record immediately after for as long as memory space will allow. I have a coworker who uses his T2i for video exclusively, so I'll have to pick his brain tomorrow

Thank you for your advice, I'll also try an SD with higher class rating.
