Hey everyone. Ive been debating getting a tablet. Im a youngin so im not thinking about getting the top of the line wacom tablet but one for cheap so i can learn on then upgrade in the future. Im curious how many photographers edit with them, and if they are any good for editing. I took a graphic design course and saw a youngin same age as me using the bamboo waccom tablet navigating through his mac. Got me thinking??

I have an ipad, 32gb wifi+3G. I absolutely love it and my boss likes it so much too hes thinking of ditching his iphone to get one. However, I would not recommend it for editing, and if you are looking for something to edit on, I would not even consider it. I use it for showing photos to clients and when I want to surf the web on something larger than a 3" screen. It all depends on the application.

I think he meant a drawing tablet

I do believe you two are talking about seperate things.

I use a tablet when I need to draw and animate, but I rarely use one for photo editing. The pressure sensitivity is nice but, for me, I am too accustomed to a mouse for photo editing.

BTW - I use the magic mouse and I love the touch top that is like a track pad. It's the best mouse I have ever owned.

Oh my bad, damn things are called the same thing now.

The photography lab at my college has Wacom Bamboo Fun tablets - They retail for around $200 I think. I love them :) They are a good size and work fine for me :)

I have an older intuis3. It's a must for me for retouching and painting. I have much more control than with my mouse. Once you start using it you'll never want to go back to the mouse.

I have the older graphire 4 which I use for drawing in photoshop or painter, but I've never used it for pp. A mouse just feels more comfortable to me when photo editing. You can pick up a small Wacom for under $100 though

Asus has a new tablet/PC/thing. Check it out here:

ASUS Eee Slate - Entertaining meets enterprising with the most powerful tablet

-intel core i5 processor, 4 GB ram
-runs Windows7 so you can actually multi-task
-IPS 1280x800 screen
-pressure sensitive pen (supposed to work like a wacom cintiq)

I think this could be a good portable device for quickly editing and showing photos.

They're supposed to sell for about $1000. Not bad considering it's an entire laptop WITH a pen sensitive touch screen AND a high quality IPS screen.

Wacom Tablets

I use an Wacom Intuous 4 medium. It's mix and match. When I'm doing a lot of blending and masking techniques, I use the tablet. I was using it with the pen tool, but I find I'm more accurate and quicker with the mouse. For general quick edits, I don't have much use for it, but when I have something I'm putting some time into, I usually have a use for it when doing more delicate editing.
