In the first one the sky is pretty blown out so I don't necessarily consider it a good picture, but I like the look and feel of the rest of it otherwise. Good concept.

The second one I like. It doesn't seem very sharp to me but the framing seems spot on.

thanks for the response. im still having problems getting sharp pictures. the first pic that you say the sky is blown out, it was very hazy, how do you get the hazy sky while getting the guy in the pic also?

The first one feels like a snapshot to me. I would suggest (and i don't say this often) to make it b&w to give it more feel

The skin tone is funky on the second. I think your wb was off

your profile does not say if we can edit. If you let me, i'll give it a pp shot and see what i can come up with

That's cool that you wOuld take time out of yOut day to adjust a picture of mine. I changed the "ok to edit" option.

his b&w conversion didn't really work for me because of all the blown out highlights, soooooo...the best advice I can give you is to look at your histogram on your camera, at the very least set your playback to highlight warning. this will blink if the highlights are blown out. A SMALL amount is ok, but all the pp in the world won't bring back information that is not there.

this is what I came up with. just too many blown out areas in the photo to really do anything with though. And remember. getting it right in camera is way easier then fixing it after.

like I say, I am still learning my camera as I go. there aren't any instructions with it, except for how to turn it on, how to zoom, and how to look at pics that you take. I went in and looked for the blinking highlights, I see that, thanks. I guess I will have to be a little more aware of the sky.

do some research on reading histograms too. your camera will show you that also. It is much easier to look at a histogram to tell if the photo is properly exposed then to just look at it. those little lcd screens don't give you much info. once you learn how to read a histogram (its easy) you can tell right away if the exposure is right or not and be able to change your settings to compensate.
