Taking my first photography course and need a camera

I found a Canon EOS 20D nearby on craigslist.

It comes with a lense and some other accessories for $320.

I found that the camera came out in late 2004, and I guess what I'm trying to find out is if this is a reasonable price and good purchase for my first camera. I went in with about a $200 budget, but decided I might as well get a DSLR and make the transition now rather than later from a point and shoot.

Anyways, any input greatly appreciated!

you can get a entry DSLR such as the canon rebel eos 1000d for 470 with lenses on amazon. may as well spend another 100?

keep looking on CL theres better deals out,my friend just got a canon rebel dslr for 125 with lens and accessories

A 20D has a better build quality and probably a better FPS than other comparable Rebels. But it is an old camera... Not sure of the exact specs, but I'd look for a camera with a CMOS sensor rather than an CCD if you can. The 20D is a fine camera for the price, and would serve you well for the photo course.

What is the difference between a snapshot and a photograph? The thought process taken before the shutter button is even pressed. Snapshots are taken with no thought to composition, lighting, subject matter, and no thought to intentions of what to do with the images once they have been taken.
