Actually, most studio pros I know tend to use f/2.8 and faster glass. This permits them to soften the background with lost DOF when appropriate and let you focus with a much brighter viewfinder. Even the AF is faster and more accurate. Just a thought.
Definately! Any pro that uses a kit lens is not a "professional" to me. They are compromising way more than speed. They are losing out on picture quality, consistancy and in the end WAY better results. A pro has no business using kit lenses, IMHO. If I walked in off the street intending to pay $750 for a portrait shoot and he pulled out the kit lens, first I would laugh, then walk out fast to find someone better equiped.
