What's new

Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC(Is mine a bad copy?)

Just got my 2nd copy in today. It's the same(up and down wiggle on the rings). I guess this is just a normal characteristic of this lens.

No wiggle on mine at all. Instead of going through amazon and asking for a new one, use the tamron warranty. Its fast, and they will make sure its perfect before sending it back to you. Its an awesome lens. I have a link to a thread on another site thats over 40 pages of nothing but photos taken with this lens. If you want to see it, pm me and ill link it to you. It'll prove that the short wait you'll have for tamron to fix it is well worth the short wait.

Hrmm, are you talking about a very slight wiggle from back to front of the lens? Thats normal....

Does using the warranty now void the warranty for later?(ie. if I need to send it back). Or is the 6 year warranty for an infinite amount of fixes during that time?

It's not abnormal that faults can be a batch level error which can mean a store can exchange you an idem that displays the same problems.

If you're in any doubt contact Tamron direct, I'm sure they'll see you right; they'd rather you have a top grade lens from them in your hands and happy and shooting and promoting their brand than have one you're concerned about.

That's what I gather from having tried two copies. Basically I'm talking about the rings moving up the gap. Not sure why Tamron wouldn't make it fit flush but oh well.

Alright will do. Thanks for the advice.

Honestly I've a feeling that you're focusing upon a tiny motion. Least ways it seems like that; its hard to tell with a still photo but I don't see much room at all in that shot for motion. Like I said before mine has a "tiny" amount of play of equal standing to my 70-200mm and I honestly wouldn't notice it all without looking for it.

This might be a little like how people notice that they can hear anti-shake REALLY loudly when testing the lens in the quiet of home (oft at night). Something that's always there but isn't a "problem" unless you focus right down to it; even then its only a perception

That may be it. I guess I'm just being OCD since this is my first third party lens.

Just for your comparison, with the 702-00mm 2.8 VC.
There is a tiny gap on the focus ring, but really nothing to notice or to be considered any issue.

omg yeah that is absolutely nothing to be worried about. You are definitely nit picking.

How bout going out and taking some pics with it, being amazed, then come back here and tell us how worried you are about that tiny gap that affects nothing.

haha yeah, the optics are fine. Was just being ocd on the fit and finish since it's an expensive lens.
