Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 issue (canon)

I have had this lens for several years and it has always worked flawlessly. I was shooting a basketball game Friday night and I got an error 01. The camera lost communication with the lens. I cleaned the contacts and get the same issue. I only get the problem past approx 65mm zoomed less than that and she'll rock & roll. Also after taking the shot (which seems to be captured with no issues except I get an error so can't shoot continuous) there is a funny noise which seems to be emanating from the lens.

Has anyone had this issue before? Any ideas?

I guess I'm gonna have to send it to Tamron and see how much it will cost to repair it.
