Tamron BBAR MULTI C Auto Zoom lens, 70~220mm

I recently bought a Tamron BBAR MULTI C Auto Zoom lens, 70~220mm for US$5 at a thrift shop. It is stamped "For Minolta SRT" on the bottom of the lens -- I was wondering if anyone has come across one of these and if so would it be compatible with my Sony A55 or do I have a new paperweight? I am interested in finding out more about this particular lens.

Tamron made a line of lenses with interchangeable mounts starting in the late 60's I believe. I think the 70-220 is from the first series called adapt-a-matic. Later they changed to adaptall then adaptall 2. More info can be found here. adaptall-2.org I'm not familiar with the sony mount system if it is compatible with SRT mounts... I'm also not sure if Sony can meter with older lenses if it can even be mounted. (some Nikons can) However if it mounts yoThere are some fun gems in this lot and the 90mm F2.5 was legendary.
