Ok.
I own a Nikon D60 and have been using the same SD (Lexar) card always.
However, there is a flaw in the design of the camera, making it frustrating to use. I'm not sure if it's the camera or the card, though I'll bet good money on the latter, assuming at least Nikon know what they are doing. I googled this, and found nothing.

Whenever I slide the card into the camera the camera gives me the error "Memory card is locked. Slide lock to "write" position". Problem is, I have.
What happens is that the write/lock tab, which is located on the side of the card, gets caught on something inside the camera and pushes it to "lock". It happens every time.
I have to keep pushing it in, taking it out, slide the tab, push it in, take it out, slide the tab, etc, etc, ad infinitum until it finally works, by some act of pure luck or coincidence.

I.e. the cameras design makes the card slide into Lock, and there seems to be no way around it...or is there?
As it is, if something happens, I dunno, like a UFO hovering above my garden, I cannot take a photo, because it takes me at least 20min to insert the card, and whether it works or not is a luck of the draw...

Any experience with this? Is it the card or the camera?

Have you tried another SD card and get the same results? IMO, there is something that pushes the slider to to lock position. Reason why I ask if you tried another SD card is that, the slider of your Lexar card may already be loose and a newer card won't experience the same thing. If not, then try to figure out what pushers the slider to lock position. Use a flashlight and magnifier to look into the SD card slot.

Hmm... Interesting. I didn't happen in the beginning, so it must be that the tab is worn...

I knew of a good fix for this.

1) Take out the card
2) find a solid surface, like a sidewalk
3) Get a big chunk of concrete
4) Smash the card until it opens up
5) Go to Target or Wal Mart and buy a new card
6) Use new card
