Teleconverters

To all the people who slate Tele-converters, have you really USED one??

Can you please elaborate on your setup? Were the airshow photos taken w/a teleconverter?

98% of all my Airshow shots are taken with a teleconverter, either on a 70-200mm or a 300mm

i agree with LP, teleconvertors do work.

that said, i dont know if its just mine... but it doesnt do anything at all, when connected to my VR lens??? dunno why

but on my friends older 70-300mm its amazing the difference it makes.
it does work on my 18-70, but really i recommend using them on lenses above 100mm

From memory the Kenko converters are not setup to work with AF-S lenses, but it should be fine on a AF or AF-D lens

LP don't you also mount some really fine glass on the other side of it? It's true teleconverts can give you amazing results. But if you mount a 2x teleconverter with the EF 100-300 at 300 on your camera I would have expect the camera to short circuit itself so it's not forced to take such horrid pictures

I have one here, and I use it occasionally, but you do only get out what you put in. ... eeer in fact half of what you put in.

Yes I do use good glass, one of the benefits of being single , but with Canon and Nikon converters you have no choice, they only fit Pro lenses.
but for years I used a Sigma 70-300mm DL macro and still got good results using an old tamron converter and I even got good results from my old Canon AV-1 with a Tamron 60-300mm and a vivitar 2x when I first started photography.

Just for grins and giggles I dug up a pic take with a TC-14 tele matched to my MF Nikkor 400mm f/3.5. Sorry it's so poor an example.
