Telephoto Lens Help!

Hi

I currently have a Canon 70-200mm but am in need of more zoom.

I am working on a project in which i will be photographing golfers, having the 70-200mm requires me to get fairly close to the players and can be off putting for them.

I am considering the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM

Would this be a decent choice?

Does anybody have any other suggestions of possible lenses to look into?

I used to have a 300F4L fantastic lens also works great with a 1.4X which make it a 420mmF5.6 and there is the 400F5.6L both sharper and faster focus than the 100-400
