Tell me about your favorite lenses

That's such a hard question for me to answer.

I live close to a great rental shop, so I have access to pretty much any lens I want, and have gone through most of them a few times over.

There are lenses that are amazing at what they do (70-200mm f/2.8 VRII for example), then there are others that are just plain fun because of the persepctive (10.5mm fisheye).
I'm a bit of a wide junkie, so I get excited when I put on something like the 12-24, so I'd have to say that's probably my favorite.

Soooo when ya gonna rent the 6mm f2.8 ais, lol!?!?!?! That lens would be serious fun!

For my D90, my personal favorite is my Tamron 200-500 SP. It is my "walk-around" lens. I have found myself mostly shooting birds lately. I got a steal of a deal locally on this lens. It was the only big lens I could afford and I have grown to love it. It can be tack sharp in the right light and it is very light for the size. I also like my Tamron 90mm Macro stacked with tubes.

Thanks everyone for your input! I enjoyed hearing about everyone's favorites. In the practical sense, I don't do a lot of telephoto shooting, nor am I into wildlife photography (for now). That being said, I'll probably go for a cheaper telephoto option and save my money for an ultrawide zoom which I feel I would use much more often. After that, I'll probably look into a fast prime lens, but as some of them are as cheap as $130, that may be sooner rather than later. That being said, I appreciated all of your suggestions, and if I have a need for a better telephoto, macro or anything else, I have some advice.

The lens I use the most over the years has been the Nikon 60mm macro f/2.8 AFd lens.
After that there are these lenses in this order: 105mm macro, 28-105mm, 50mm l.4, 20mm 2.8.

I only own the Nikon 18-55mm VR DX kit lens and the Nikon 35mm DX prime. As I'm a beginner, I havent decided about the loving them part. I'm a bit annoyed the prime doesnt have VR, though. I wanted it specifically for low light and not having VR is kind of a bummer.

i think i love my 24mm 2.8 AI-s the most.
When it was with my D7000, it made wonderful walkaround lens, i've got so many nice photos with it, landscape or close up (thanks to the CRC feature)
Now when it's with my D700, it's just amazingly small but useful for indoor, landscape and even people photography.
My point is, it's my cheapest lens, but i love it so much

I think due to the short (or normal) focal length, it wont have VR.

For my entry level photography skills, I have really liked my 50mm 1.4D and 70-300mm ED VRII lenses. The 50mm has been a real nice walk around lens, providing you dont mind the human zoom. If i want to walk around with a little zoom however, the 28-70mm 2.8 has been a good lens too.

nikon 70-200 vr II FTW. but the 24-70 works well too when you need something wider, but its just not as "fun"

Annoyed about a 1.8 lens not having VR? There is no way you need VR on a 35 1.8 lens. The 1.8 aperture is the thing you need for low light performance of any moving subjects. Learn good handholding technique is the key! When I owned the 35 1.8 I wasn't annoyed about the lack of VR, I was more annoyed about the fact that it is a mediocre lens.

My fave lenses are my Sigma 50 1.4 and my Tamron 17-50 2.8.

I like my 28-70 2.8 Nikon lens as well as my 18-35mm. Both on a D700 so the 18 is pretty wide super sharp and fast. This covers the ranges I need however if I need more lens then I rent as needed if the job requires it. I still like my primes but I find myself reaching for these two more often.
