Yes, the 1D Mark IV has a slight edge there, and has double the fps as you point out.

Of course, both the D3X and the 1D4 make perfect sense if "technology just isn't there yet." We're basically in agreement.

Also keep in mind if you get a 7D with non FX lenses, and later upgrade to a FX camera, those lenses wont work.

I assume you meant D300s, and of course they will work on FX cameras. Nikon isn't so stupid to shut out an individuals entire lens collection (assuming they have DX branded lenses, which are really the only lenses that are tailored for a specific format). These lenses will of course work better on DX cameras (since they will use the entire sensor), but they will also work (in a "hobbled" mode) on FX bodies.

I'd go with the D300s simply because it seems to get unqualified praise, while the praise on the 7D is often coming with an asterisk.
