Hey, thanks that you like the pictures... i post pictures here but i have also more, where is the problem when i show what else i have on my website. You have links to Blogs and your Website too. I think thats normal every photographers must promote themselves to be succesfull.

I post here a lot - and have the links to my blog in my signature but I participate here.

Your pictures are great but this site thrives on people participating here, not being lured off somewhere else to spend time.

It's like going into a party as a new person and immediately inviting the people to come to your house instead.

ok, that means that your first postings was without your signature and than after thousands of entries you added it because you dont wanna share you website to early? The people here can see my pictures because i post them here and when they think they wanna click on any link they can do it, but they dont must do that. I think everybody think different about the balance between posting here and showing links to own sites, i post my work with a quality that i enough without the need to go on my website, i think thats participation. But again everybody think different about that.

You can rationalize it however you want but my original statement stands.

The entire group gets something out of seeing your pictures here and any discussion that might result here.
If individuals go off site, the group doesn't get any value out of it.

This site is for the benefit of this group and not to provide a feed network for views of your pictures.

But when you see, the last sentence (in the future, many tutorials and behind the scenes videos are comming) thats free for everybody and i think that is for some people a great thing... i share my actual knowledge with everybody and i dont charge anything for that. I think that is a good way to give something back to the people when they visit my site. And by the way, when i see good work here or in other forums i want to know the website to see more information and work of them. But we have a different view on that topic and its ok...

These are really lovely photos. That first one... wow. Not sure how I feel about the "bokeh," it's more reminiscent of winter. But the leaves are fabulous.

People are less likely to click a new members link for fear of malware.

Are you here to participate and share... or are you here to promote your site? It looks like the latter... that is what Lew is trying to say. And the emphasis should be on the former....

He is established and respected.... we don't know you yet. For all we know, you will be like others who post some pictures and a website, and that is all.

We are not a Photographer Advertising site... we are supposedly a community of all of levels of experience with an emphasis on teaching and learning.... and sharing.

Does that help you to understand Lew's point (assuming I understood it correctly!)?

i understand what The_Traveler means but i dont have the same opinion and in EVERY other forum i never had this discussion. Again nobody must click my links, it is not neccessary but you can visit my site. And its not like that i'm on a party and invite all to my own party, my site is no competitor of this site.

That was my feeling, too. #1 is a nice concept and well presented but #2 doesn't do you any favours. I'd have binned it if it were mine.

@nico : what is the background of the 1st pic, if you dont mind tellin.
nice pic, would u mind tellin the lighting combination in pic no 1 ?

@JFC: The background is a very bright brown studio background, but i draw some brown areas in it with a brush and put the layer style to "soft light". The bokeh is unsharp captured light also in "soft light" layer mode. The light was only one big octabox (~47 inch) from top right but very near to the model to have very soft shadows, i tried to put the direction of light we naturally the sun comes from in the afternoon.
