The Coffee House

Yard deco is a big thing around me. Those huge HomeDepot skeletons and animated figures are all over the 'hood. At a loss how they could be re-purposed for Christmas and Easter...

They’re everywhere here too, giant and people sized. The locals like to set up the life sized ones in funny vignettes. There are some playing poker, cornhole, at the “beach”, sitting around a fire pit… very creative. I’m getting one next year. It’s going to be out by the roses wearing my sun hat and gardening gloves with pruning shears in one hand and a bloody pumpkin head in the other.

You could do Nightmare Before Christmas.

Cute. Neighbor said there were some bony dancers and a stripper pole up the street. These people...

Hmmm - maybe I can get one and put it at the (soon to get) snow blower or in the kayak. Then there's the Skeleton Duck for the Jeep.

After 31 days without a drop of rain, we finally get a little shower. Went out this morning on our morning walk, a few tiny puddles here and there. We're very close to drought conditions here, coupled with low humidity has created a dangerous situation with all the forests around us. Hopefully in the next week we'll get a soaking rain.

Ugh - drought is bad anywhere, but in the deep south it can be an especially bad tinderbox.

We've had a dry fall here, but after being pounded so relentlessly with rain most of the summer, I don't care. Showers beginning this weekend and we've had a few here and there. Everyone's grass is still green, so no worries.

Hope you get enough soon to get your local weathercasters to relax!

In other news - Happy Friday, hosers! Rain is moving in this weekend, so we're likely to just hunker down. Hubby has been keeping up with the deluge of fall leaves in the back yard. They look beautiful and smell so wonderful, I hate to see them go.

Our city will collect them every week through the end of November. They get swept up when we carry them to the street, and the city gets them transferred to a recycling center that mulches them for us. We get the mulch back, piled up high, for free every spring. Best stuff ever.

We have a lot of the big skeletal tableaux around here, too. Up and down the city - a bridal shop has a skeletal pair decked out in a gown and top hat with tails; a local doctor's office has a few in white coats and masks - you get the idea. They're hilarious and inventive.

They will be taken down slowly over the next several days - they're very popular. More fun than holiday lights.

Enthusiasm for Halloween dumb fun tanked during the pandemic. Happy to hear/see it's alive and well!
A couple busy guys a few doors away...

I got back 2 days ago from Mexico. It rained mostly or was overcast. There was sun off and on, but more off. I only took my camera out twice. Haven't looked at the photos yet.

You went to far south. LOL We just got back first of the week from Gulf Shores, couldn't ask for any better weather.

We were south of Cancun near Playa del Carmen and had all the rain. One of the workers lives in Cancun and most days didn't get a drop. Oh well. It was relaxing on our patio with wait staff coming by between the rain with food and drinks.

Sorry for the bad weather! At least it was still a nice break in the routine, and from your previous pictures it looks beautiful there.

I thought there would be post-Halloween candy sales, and there were some, but the price drop was disappointing, so I didn't buy anything. Not yet anyway.

We are also in a rain deficit. We had a few sprinkles yesterday morning but they didn't amount to anything other than a rainbow near the office.

MLW & MLSIL are going to a pottery today. For those that recall , I had a couple mugs made for Gary A. with a likeness of his (late) Wheaton Terrier by this pottery. I don't want to go; I'm afraid I'll buy a bunch of dishes for the new house.

@snowbear I was just thinking about Gary A. the other day. It's been a few months since I talked to him, need to check in on him I guess.

Headed to the lake next week, crappie are in their fall run. I'd planed on fishing a couple days but after a month of no rain it looks like it's finally in the forecast🤨
