What's new

The Coffee House

On another note, the tropical storm finally passed, 24 hrs of rain and only a few tree branches down. So all good got the rain we needed and not the wind we didn't. So win win.

Sixty Five and still alive!

Yesterday, MLSIL lost electricity just before I got to her place So we just came home. We stopped by the orange home store and picked up a new porch lamp for her. I’ll install it when it’s not raining. Try to get into her attic this evening after dinner.

Happy Birthday!

I played hooky on Fri and we drove up to Lake George for lunch and some outlet shopping. I got my very first Dutch oven at the Le Crueset outlet, and today, I made my first loaf of bread in it. It's pretty tasty. PXL_20230924_161504283.webp

That looks gorgeous! I have 3 or 4 pieces of Le Crueset cookware, and they'll spoil you for anything else. I bet that was delicious. 😋

Hey Hosers! Sorry to be MIA recently, have been busy with some DIY projects and haven’t had much time for photography or posting online.

This weekend’s project before and after. I was so sick of this boring beige fireplace. I plan to replace it with something more modern at some point in the fiutre but for now just wanted a change.

I've made bread before but never in a Dutch oven, and I was fairly impressed at how good it came out. Pretty sure I can never bake bread any other way now! Well, unless it's pizza, of course ;) And yeah, I might have to get a few more pieces from that outlet at some point. It was a very good sale - I got that Dutch oven for almost about 40% off the price on the website. It was still a splurge but not as much as it could have been, and it's clear that it was worth it.

Looks good, Leo and Sharon. We’re going to paint the upstairs fireplace white; I haven’t decided on a color for the one in the basement.

we have two pieces of La Creuset: a Dutch oven and a grill pan. We might need to run up to the outlet one weekend. I want to go to the Wusthof outlet in CT.

Cast iron or ceramic, that shape produces killer loaves!

I'd rate this title as another baking "must-have"

I love this! It's bold but cozy, too. Looks great!

I'm a big believer in simple painting projects (as opposed to remodels) to update rooms. A lot of bang for the buck.

Thanks! It was tedious because the brick is very textured but it covered in one coat of primer and one coat of paint. I need to redo the stain on the mantle this is reading a bit too orange against the black.

I also considered painting it white but once it was primed I didn’t like the lighter color - too much white and light gray in this room already, so my decision was made for me!

Here in the South I'm loving the cool mornings we're having. I'm not loving how the #$%^%& spiders go crazy building webs everywhere, like there's a competition to see how many they can spin before the cold weather really sets in. Every morning on my morning walk with Phoebe, I invariably walk face first into several leaving me dancing around like some spastic kung fu master gone wild. In my mind I'm seeing this on my face.

When in reality, they are only this.

Funny how your mind works when spiders are involved. LOL (adobe stock images)

Love the black! Did you stain the mantel darker?

My husband vacuumed our finished basement yesterday and killed a giant spider. I was tearing down my pup spa set and he was all flushed describing the big spider. Since our daughters have moved out the finished basement doesn't get any use except when I have my photo stuff set up. It was full of dust and cobwebs.

Thank you, Cheryl.

spiders are fine; my job is to remove them, one way or another, from the house or car. I generally try to get them in something and escort them outside. The big exception was the black widow that wandered into the apartment.
