I'm glad an alternate route has opened up - and it's good to hear that the local sports teams have donated money. I get that it's PR, but every effort helps with getting this rebuilt ASAP.Good morning hosers. MLW worked the back 12 last night (7:00 PM Saturday to 7:00 AM today). I'm going to help keep things quiet so she can sleep by going to western MD, drive some unpaved roads in a State Forest, and try to catch a couple fish. A solo trip as MLSIL stayed home this weekend. She sent us a couple house listings nut in Rhode Island, rather than ME/NH/VT. MLSIL loves what she sees on one of the, It's not exactly what I', looking for, but it has my attention. MLW has to be interested before we go tour any of them.
An alternate channel has been opened up to get by the Key bridge, so there is progress. The Ravens and Orioles organizations donated ten million to the Key Bridge reconstruction effort. A drop in the bucket for them, but at least they put in something.
Gorgeous day up here, too. We've been in and out all day, starting in on the garden and getting those big brown yard bags stuffed for the yard waste pickup on Tuesday. I spied hosta buds - in their asparagus-tip lookalike stage.Looks to be a beautiful day here today. Looks like some outside yard work after Church for me.
I decided that I would treat my cards like ssds, and just leave them in the camera, instead of removing them to download images. It takes only the slightest bit of static electricity to fry one of those cards, and each time they are handled, there is a chance of that happening. The images were on the card in the camera. Whatever happened took place as I plugged the card into the card reader on my computer. After that the camera wouldn't read the card either.
We don't get more than very mild shakes here, fortunately. We have about 250 fault lines in the DFW area. The largest fault in TX is the Balcones fault line. If we ever do get one that causes to ground to roll like that, the houses around here will be trash, because the concrete pads they pour are only like 18-24" thick. I've experienced them in Los Angeles, and the entire West Hollywood area would sound like a jungle full of maniacal birds due to the car alarm motion sensors.@CherylL two different card readers and camera, nothing. I tried some other cards with a few images they worked fine after. I'm starting to doubt my part now, as the card in question is an odd one. I can't remember if I had problems with it before and accidentally picked it up.
Quakes were fairly common in my childhood. I grew up less than 60 miles from New Madrid in SE MO. I remember being outside during a strong one and seeing the ground roll like small waves. The New Madrid fault line has always been active, but after time you get used to it. Where we live in Alabama we're on the tail of The Southern Appalachian Seismic Zone. We get an occasional tremor but nothing as severe as in MO.
It depends in part on the manufacturer and on how the Operating System you are using manages the SSD, and whether they have SMART (Self Monitoring And Reporting Technology) enabled. With SMART enabled, your computer should notify you if there are issues with the hardware, and whether you should be concerned. Most OS's will continually scan the drive for errors, and when an issue detected, move the data to a new location in order to preserve it. That's barring a catastrophic failure, of course.Oh, am I having a bad day:
I had reason to look back on old files. I have wondered about age limits of SSDs. I have recently found that I had lost data on old memory sticks, but that is a different technology. But looking at old SSDs, back to 2021 and guess what? A lot is gone or unaccessible. I'll have to see what I can do tomorrow.
It may be that the evaporator fan isn't working, and needs replacing, which may cost less than a new fridge. The fan pulls the a chilled air from the freezer and circulates it through the rest of the fridge. The 19 year old fridge is dead, freezer works fridge wont cool but the 30+ year old ones still going strong. Runs a little cold but thats it...
We are renovating the house and plan to sell when we retire, or shortly after. MLSIL will be going in with us so we'll stagger the sale of the current houses.I'm glad an alternate route has opened up - and it's good to hear that the local sports teams have donated money. I get that it's PR, but every effort helps with getting this rebuilt ASAP.
I'm confused - I thought you all were renovating your house to stay in - but you're looking at out of state properties? Is this a retirement plan or second home?
