What's new

The Coffee House

I like the resolution and flexibility, compared to the D40 and the lens covers most of the range I shoot. There may be other configurations but I go with what I know.

For anyone that saw the GBH I posted, I looked out a little while ago and there are four of them in that area. Plus the mom duck and offspring.

Last Rites...The late Tony Bourdain talked of conversations with fellow chefs about their choices for a last meal. You're getting fried in the electric chair tomorrow early, what's your choice for dinner? Responses were sobering, funny, touching. It was never anything found in a Michelin 3 star resto.
That said, what camera/camera+single lens would you keep above all others--and why-- from your addiction to photography?

For me, it was an old Minolta SRT-101+Rokkor 58/1.4. Got it cheap when I was a broke-a$$ grad student just after my son's birth. Caught fave living room floor-level candids of him at 2-4
that still have places on our walls. Fast lens, fast film and then-cheapo dev-print service caught
a special time.
What about you?
I think I'll keep this Sony RX10M4, because it has a nice range from 24mm to 600mm, f/2.4-f/4, and it is light weight and doesn't require carrying multiple lenses that need to be swapped out depending on the circumstance. A good, practical camera for a shaky old geezer... 😁

Death of Someone I Knew:

I have found out that someone I knew died a couple of days ago. I don't know how the survivors feel about being mentioned on an international platform, so without saying more, I offer a thought of "Rest in Peace".

My deepest condolences to you. It is always sad to have someone one knows say goodbye.

Easy. My Pentax K1000 and the 50mm prime. It was my first proper camera that I bought for myself more than 30 years ago. It's been with me through every move through 3 states and 3 countries and countless vacations, it's taken tumbles and never stopped working, and more than any other camera, it takes the pictures that I actually see in my brain before I hit the shutter. I have been shooting with it continuously for decades, and I will not be without it.

So new hot water heater. Crazy though, $1200 for a 40 gal gas with 6 year warrantee or $479 for this 40 gal electric with 9 year warrantee.

All told it was $685 and me and a buddy did it in about 3 hrs. Still have to remove the old gas line.

Gas on demand, you’ll never go back to a tank.

Built a new bird house today out of stuff I had laying around. Gave it a living roof!

I think it came out pretty well! My favorite one yet and all my other bird houses are occupied so I got no vacancy which means I needed to expand my bird house enterprise!

I love having them around though, I swear the more birds I have hanging around the less annoying insects I have!

I've been looking at the tankless. When I lived in Germany, the tankless heaters were great. They were made by Siemens and Bosch, and just worked, but boy could you scald yourself if you weren't careful.

Up until the past couple years, we were pretty much mosquitoe free at our lake retreat. Our next door neighbor had a large Purple Martin Condo right on the property line. It was fun to watch them swooping and diving across the yard of an evening. Not sure why they left but the house is vacant now.🤔
